POSITION INFO:This opportunity is with a well-established telecommunications and network services organisation operating within fibre infrastructure and high-performance connectivity solutions. The business focuses on quality network builds, precision execution, and dependable service delivery across residential and enterprise environments. The Fibre Optic Splicing Technician will be responsible for the installation, splicing, testing, and maintenance of fibre optic networks. This is a hands-on, field-based role requiring strong technical skill, attention to detail, and the ability to diagnose and resolve network faults efficiently.
You will work closely with project managers, engineers, and fellow technicians to deliver high-quality fibre links on time and to specification.
- Perform fibre splicing, termination, and testing using OTDRs, power meters, and fusion splicers
- Connect FTTH and FTTB clients to GPON networks
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair fibre optic network faults
- Read and interpret network designs, schematics, and technical drawings
- Build and test end-to-end enterprise fibre links
- Maintain accurate records, test results, and as-built documentation after each link build
- Collaborate with project teams to meet deadlines and quality standards
- National Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or equivalent
- Fibre optic technical certifications (FOA, CFOT, or similar) advantageous
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in fibre optic splicing, installation, and testing
- Proven experience working on FTTH, FTTB, and GPON networks
- Experience building end-to-end enterprise fibre links (highly advantageous)
- Proficiency with OTDRs, power meters, fusion splicers, and related testing equipment
- Strong understanding of fibre cabling standards, specifications, and best practices
- Experience with underground and aerial fibre installations
- Strong fault-finding, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Comfortable working at heights, outdoors, and in confined spaces
- Physically able to lift and carry equipment
- Valid driver’s licence and reliable transport
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and on-call support
- Able to work in adverse weather conditions
