Position Overview

We are seeking a passionate and skilled Horticulturalist to join our team in advancing environmental education, biodiversity restoration, and sustainable land management. This role is central to our mission of igniting a love for nature in children while empowering communities to make informed plant choices that support butterflies, birds, bees, and other vital species.

As a Horticulturist, you will curate, design, and implement plant-based interventions that restore degraded landscapes, enhance ecological resilience, and foster inclusive stewardship of the natural environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plant Resource Curation

    • Select, propagate, and manage indigenous and culturally significant plant species for restoration projects.
    • Develop plant palettes that balance ecological fidelity with community needs and aesthetic appeal.
    • Manage efficient and effective eradication of invasive plants, and help restore sustainable ecosystems.
    • Manage online sales of plants.
    • Landscaping
  • Research & Documentation

    • Contribute to botanical resource libraries, including field guides, taxonomic tables, and visual frameworks.
    • Document best practices and case studies for replication across diverse landscapes.
  • Collaboration

    • Work closely with ecologists, restoration strategists, and community leaders to integrate horticultural expertise into broader biodiversity initiatives.
    • Support coalition-building by aligning plant-based interventions with policy frameworks and cultural knowledge.

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Horticulture, Botany, Ecology, or Environmental Science (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Demonstrated expertise in indigenous plant species, propagation techniques, and sustainable landscape design.
  • Strong communication skills for diverse audiences, from scientific peers to community groups.
  • Experience in restoration ecology, permaculture, or agroecology is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across disciplines and cultures, with sensitivity to local traditions and knowledge systems.
