Junior Sous Chef | Luxury Tented Camp

Location: Hoedspruit

Salary: Negotiable DOE | Live-in

Kendrick Recruitment is recruiting on behalf of a luxury tented camp in Hoedspruit for a motivated and passionate Junior Sous Chef. This role is ideal for a culinary professional looking to grow within a high-end safari hospitality environment while supporting kitchen operations and maintaining exceptional food standards.

Key Responsibilities / Outputs:

  • Supervise and support kitchen staff in all food preparation and presentation tasks

  • Ensure all food is prepared to the highest quality standards and that recipes are followed and executed correctly

  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen and storage areas

  • Assist in the training and development of kitchen staff

  • Help monitor and manage inventory, including ordering and stocking supplies when needed

  • Ensure timely and efficient service during meal times

  • Maintain good communication within the kitchen and handle kitchen-related issues as they arise

  • Ensure constant upkeep of buffet service, bush delights, and banqueting

  • Engage positively with guests and invite feedback

  • Remain flexible and approachable with new ideas and concepts

  • Have a clear understanding of special dietary requirements

Previous Work Experience

Required:

  • Minimum of 2+ years’ experience as a Chef

  • Culinary school diploma or equivalent practical experience

  • Strong knowledge of culinary techniques and current trends

Personal Characteristics:

  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment

  • High attention to detail and a commitment to excellence

  • Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team

  • Willingness and ability to share information, teach, and inspire others

Desirable

Skills:

  • Experience working in a lodge or remote location setting

  • Knowledge of local ingredients and cuisine

  • Creative flair with a passion for innovation in the kitchen

  • HACCP knowledge

  • Knowledge and experience with PANstrat would be advantageous
