Job Description

CAPRISA is an award-winning global research organisation located on the campus of the Nelson Mandela School of Medicine in Durban, South Africa and undertakes research in HIV, TB and Covid at four clinical research sites in Kwa Zulu‑Natal.

CAPRISA’s goal is to undertake globally relevant and locally responsive research that contributes to understanding HIV Vaccines and Pathogenesis, Prevention and Epidemiology, the links between Tuberculosis and AIDS treatment and Covid‑19. CAPRISA is a UNAIDS Collaborating Centre for HIV Research and Policy and is recognised as a DSI‑NRF Centre of Excellence in HIV Prevention and hosts the SAMRC HIV‑TB Pathogenesis and Treatment Unit.

The successful candidate will join the CAPRISA clinical research team based at the Vulindlela Clinical Research Site (Howick Area).

• Diploma or degree in Nursing and Midwifery, with HIV/AIDS counselling qualification
• Current Registration with South African Nursing Council (as a Professional Nurse)
• At least 2 years HIV/ARV and phlebotomy experience
• Experience with conducting physical exams, pelvic exams, pap smears and genital specimens’ collection.
• Contraceptive provision
• Knowledge, understanding and experience of treatment, care and management of HIV and STIs
• Knowledge and understanding of COVID-19 infection control and prevention guidelines
• Computer literate in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Fluency in English and isiZulu preferable
• Research experience (Advantageous)
• Good Clinical Practice Certification (Advantageous)

• Conduct Informed Consent Process
• Administer study specific questionnaires
• Perform HIV/AIDS counselling and testing
• Perform Clinical Examinations and sample collection
• Facilitate receipt of laboratory results and transcription onto case report forms
