Our client, a well-established manufacturer servicing the mining and heavy machinery industrial sector, is seeking an experienced Production Manager to lead their Galvanising Department. This is a senior operational role suited to a hands-on leader with strong people management capability, solid production control experience, and proven exposure to unionised environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Overall management of the galvanising production department, ensuring output, quality, safety, and cost targets are met
• Leading and managing a large workforce, including foremen, supervisors, and machine operators
• Coordinating and optimising production across multiple galvanising machines and lines
• Planning and scheduling production to meet operational and customer requirements
• Ensuring compliance with health, safety, quality, and environmental standards
• Driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and reduce downtime
• Managing disciplinary processes, performance management, and attendance in line with labour legislation
• Engaging constructively with trade unions and maintaining sound industrial relations
• Collaborating closely with maintenance, quality, logistics, and HR teams

Minimum Requirements

• Proven experience as a Production Manager or Senior Production Supervisor within a galvanising, steel, or heavy manufacturing environment
• Strong track record of managing large, unionised work forces
• Sound knowledge of South African labour legislation and HR best practices
• Demonstrated experience dealing with unions, grievances, and disciplinary procedures
• Solid understanding of production planning, machine utilisation, and KPI management
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Technical qualification in Production Management, Engineering, or a related field
