Position: Refractory Mason (Red Seal)

Our client in the Manufacturing Industry is seeking to employ a Refractory Mason (Red Seal) to join their team. Please note that this is a fixed-term contract.

Duties & Responsibilities

Refractory Installation & Repair:

Install, repair, and maintain refractory linings in furnaces, kilns, boilers, ovens, and other high-temperature equipment.
Lay refractory bricks, castable, plastics, and insulation materials according to drawings and specifications.
Mix, apply, and cure refractory materials to required standards.

Surface Preparation & Demolition:

Remove damaged or worn refractory linings safely and efficiently.
Prepare surfaces by cleaning, chipping, and breaking out old material to ensure proper adhesion.

Inspection & Quality Control:

Inspect refractory installations for defects, cracks, or wear.
Ensure work meets quality standards, tolerances, and manufacturer specifications.

Safety Compliance:

Adhere strictly to the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and site-specific safety regulations.
Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including respiratory protection when required.
Participate in toolbox talks, risk assessments, and safety briefings.

Equipment & Tool Handling:

Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and equipment used in refractory work.
Ensure tools and materials are used correctly and stored safely.

Teamwork & Communication:

Work closely with supervisors, engineers, and other trades to complete work efficiently.
Follow work instructions accurately and report hazards or defects immediately.

Experience & Qualification

National Senior Certificate (Matric).
Refractory Mason Red Seal Certification.
Minimum 1-3 years’ experience as a Refractory Mason in a Metal, Foundry, or Engineering environment.
Forklift and Overhead Crane Operations advantageous.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
Sasol or heavy industrial site experience will be an advantage.
Must be a local candidate
