Role OverviewAs a senior member of the Infrastructure team, the 3rd Line Infrastructure Engineer will serve as the primary escalation point for complex technical issues. You will design, deploy, support, and optimize advanced infrastructure environments, taking ownership of system reliability, performance, and strategic enhancements.
Key Responsibilities 🔧 Troubleshooting & Escalation- Engage with 1st/2nd line teams to resolve high-severity incidents.
- Lead root cause analysis and guide implementation of permanent fixes.
- Architect and deploy advanced systems including VMware, Hyper-V, or AWS/Azure/GCP.
- Provide best-practice guidance for on-premises and hybrid cloud configurations.
- Monitor, analyze, and optimize infrastructure performance.
- Plan and execute capacity upgrades aligned with business growth.
- Implement and maintain secure infrastructure—patching, configuration management, firewall rules, etc.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies and external standards like GDPR and ISO 27001.
- Develop scripts and automation (e.g., Power Shell, Python, Ansible) to streamline tasks and deployments.
- Set up and enhance monitoring via tools like Nagios, Zabbix, Solar Winds, or Grafana.
- Deliver reports and dashboards to stakeholders on infrastructure health and trends.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams—Dev Ops, Networking, Security, and Architecture.
- Provide technical mentorship to 1st/2nd line engineers and interns.
- Lead or contribute to major infrastructure projects—migrations, rollouts, upgrades, data centre enhancements.
- Evaluate and pilot new technologies, making recommendations for adoption.
- Server Virtualization:
Deep experience with VMware vSphere or Microsoft Hyper-V. - Cloud Infrastructure:
Proficiency with AWS, Azure, or GCP (compute, networking, storage). - Networking:
Solid understanding of TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, firewalls. - Storage Systems:
Familiar with SAN/NAS – iSCSI, Fibre Channel, SMB, NFS. - Windows Server & Active Directory: AD/DNS/DHCP, clustering, Group Policy.
- Automation Tools:
Power Shell, Python, Ansible, or similar. - Google / Apple Endpoint Management (Chrome
OS / iOS) and also general Google / Apple Administration for user accounts and email. - Knowledge of Google Classroom also beneficial.
- Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and critical thinking.
- Strong verbal and written communication; able to work across technical and business teams.
- Leadership mindset, capable of mentoring junior engineers.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Certifications like VCP, MSCE, AWS Solutions Architect, or similar are a plus.
- 5+ years of hands-on infrastructure engineering experience in enterprise environments.
