Job Purpose:
The Financial Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial statements, ensuring compliance with South Africa financial regulations, and supporting the organization’s financial decision-making processes.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
- Professional qualification preferred – South Africa Institute of Chartered Accountants
- 3-5 years experience in accounting or finance (mining & manufacturing industry)
- Experience with financial reporting and tax compliance
- Experience working with accounting systems – SAGE Evolution
- Financial analysis and reporting
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and South African tax regulations
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy

- Strong communication and problem solving skills
Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly, bi-annual, and annual financial statements.
- Ensure compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and South African regulations.
- Perform month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Prepare management reports and financial analysis.
Accounting & Bookkeeping
- Maintain the general ledger and reconcile accounts.
- Process and review journal entries.
- Ensure accurate recording of all financial transactions.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Assist with the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts.
- Monitor actual performance against budgets.
- Provide variance analysis and recommendations.
Compliance & Tax
- Ensure compliance with regulations from the South African Revenue Service.
- Prepare and submit VAT, PAYE, and corporate tax documentation.
- Ensure compliance with the Companies Act 71 of 2008.
Mineral Royalty Accounting & Compliance
- Ensure accurate calculation and reporting of royalty taxes in accordance with the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Royalty Act 28 of 2008 and the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Royalty (Administration) Act 29 of 2008.
- Maintain an understanding of the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Royalty Bill and related regulatory updates affecting mineral royalty taxation.
- Calculate royalty payments based on gross sales of mineral resources transferred and applicable royalty formulas.
- Prepare and submit royalty tax returns to the South African Revenue Service within required deadlines.
- Ensure accurate classification of refined and unrefined mineral resources for royalty tax purposes.
- Maintain supporting schedules and documentation for royalty calculations and audit purposes.
- Liaise with tax advisors and auditors regarding royalty tax compliance and reporting.
Carbon Tax Accounting & Compliance
- Maintain an understanding of the Carbon Tax Act 15 of 2019 and its impact on company financial reporting and tax obligations.
- Assist with the calculation, reporting, and reconciliation of carbon tax liabilities.
- Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for carbon tax submissions to the South African Revenue Service.
- Monitor emissions data and ensure alignment between operational reporting and financial records.
- Assist in the preparation and submission of carbon tax returns and related disclosures.
- Support internal processes to ensure compliance with environmental tax regulations.
Audits
- Assist with internal and external audits.
- Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation.
- Liaise with auditors and respond to queries.
Financial Controls
- Implement and monitor internal financial controls.
- Identify risks and recommend improvements to financial processes.
