Located in the Northeast of Scotland, Aberdeen is a city that combines the amenities of a large city with access to surrounding countryside and coastline. Aberdeen has a large anaesthetic department offering a comprehensive range of clinical services and opportunities to develop research and teaching interests in collaboration with local universities.
NHS Grampian provides an extensive range of interventions across all surgical specialties, with many teams undertaking regional or national work in addition to local treatment. This breadth allows enthusiastic appointees to identify and develop interests in a wide range of areas.

The Cardiothoracic Unit in Aberdeen is a busy unit covering the full range of adult cardiac surgery, including off-pump coronary artery bypass surgery, aortic reconstructive surgery and less invasive cardiac surgery. It also supports an expanding cardiac electrophysiology and percutaneous intervention service including transcatheter aortic valve implantation.
Joining with 6 other Consultant Cardiac Anaesthetists, this post offers a combination of fixed and flexible sessions in cardiac anaesthesia and cardiac intensive care, with the opportunity to flexibly cover thoracic surgery and other specialties. The successful candidate will join the cardiac anaesthesia and intensive care on-call rota. On-call duties will be approximately 1:7 and on a non-resident basis.
