Location: Somerset West
Overview
A renowned Manufacturing Engineering company is looking for a Duty Drawback Specialist (Manufacturing) to join their team on a full-time permanent basis in the Helderberg Area, Cape Town.
Responsibilities- End-to-End Drawback Management
- Identify qualifying imported materials used in exported production.
- Manage preparation, submission, and follow-up of drawback claims. (initially handled by external consulting)
- Track claims through to refund and reconcile payments received.
- Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with SARS customs requirements and documentation standards.
- Maintain updated knowledge of customs legislation, rebate provisions, and drawback item schedules.
- Manage SARS audits, inspections, and verification processes.
- Maintain required registrations and licensing with SARS.
- Documentation & Record Management
- Oversee accurate record-keeping of import and export documentation, including:
- Bills of entry
- SAD
500 declarations - Commercial invoices
- Bill of lading / airway bills
- Export documentation
- Implement document control systems to support audit readiness.
- Oversee accurate record-keeping of import and export documentation, including:
- Financial Reconciliation & Reporting
- Reconcile customs duty paid vs. duty claimed.
- Prepare monthly reporting on:
- Claims submitted
- Refunds received
- Outstanding claims
- Cash flow impact
- Identify opportunities to improve recovery rates.
- Cross-Functional Coordination
- Collaborate with Supply Chain, Logistics, Procurement, and Production teams to ensure accurate tracking of imported materials through to export.
- Liaise with clearing agents and freight forwarders to obtain required documentation.
- Provide internal training on drawback processes and compliance requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Supply Chain, Customs Management, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in customs, trade compliance, or duty drawback management.
- In-depth knowledge of the Customs and Excise Act and SARS customs procedures.
- Strong understanding of import/export documentation.
- Advanced Excel and ERP system experience (SAP preferred).
- Strong analytical and reconciliation skills.
