Project Delivery Officer (Stronger Shores)

(Town Hall, South Shields)

£41,771 pa

Fixed Term Contract until 31 March 2027

Are you passionate about our coastline and marine habitats, and helping communities adapt to a changing climate? This is a rare opportunity to play a key role in one of the UK’s most ambitious coastal resilience projects – Stronger Shores.

Stronger and more frequent storms, combined with rising sea levels, mean that coastal communities across the UK are increasingly exposed to erosion and flood risk. As the UK steps up to become a global leader in tackling the climate and biodiversity crises, nature‑based solutions are taking centre stage – and Stronger Shores is at the forefront of this movement.

The north‑east region’s eroding coastline provides an exceptional natural laboratory for testing and demonstrating how marine habitats such as seagrass, kelp, and oyster beds can not only thrive, but also offer vital coastal protection. Supported by £6.9m from DEFRA’s Flood and Coastal Resilience Innovation Programme, this pioneering six‑year project (launched in 2021) is restoring and monitoring sub‑tidal habitats to measure how they deliver improved coastal protection, biodiversity, water quality and other benefits.

As the lead authority for this regional scheme, South Tyneside Council is seeking an experienced, motivated and forward‑thinking Project Delivery Officer to help drive progress through the final phase of delivery.

In this role, you will:
  • Take a hands‑on role in supporting a diverse programme of work;
  • Support the delivery of funding bids and legacy planning;
  • Lead and support engagement activities across our multi‑agency partnership.

We are looking for someone with proven experience in project delivery and stakeholder engagement, as well as a genuine passion for the coastal and marine work.

A secondment opportunity may be available for the right candidate (please secure permission from your line manager before applying). Interviews will be held Wednesday 8 April 2026.

For an informal discussion about this post, please contact Ken Buchan, Stronger Shores Delivery Manager at kenneth or .

We offer an excellent benefits package and further information is available here:
