The Position

A healthier future. It’s what drives us to innovate. To continuously advance science and ensure everyone has access to the healthcare they need today and for generations to come. Creating a world where we all have more time with the people we love. That’s what makes us Genentech.

This role is based in the Technology Innovation Enablement (TIE) team, a strategic search and evaluation unit within the Scientific Operations, Diagnostic and Technology (ODT) group of gRED Translational Medicine. TIE’s mission is to identify emerging biomarker testing solutions and build partnerships required to critically evaluate, develop and implement them. We serve as a catalyst for translational innovation, aligning cross‑functional resources behind the ‘big bets’ that anticipate future testing paradigms and that deliver long‑term value to our research and development goals.

As a Biomarker Technology Program Manager, you will leverage a technical and product management approach to drive translational innovation. Your core responsibility is to collaborate with cross‑functional partners to co‑develop strategies and execute projects that evaluate and deploy fit‑for‑purpose biomarker testing innovations into our translational research programs. This role directly impacts drug development by delivering a portfolio of operationalized biomarker testing solutions (e.g., novel assays, analytic models, platforms, and central lab services) that facilitate more accurate clinical development decision‑making and accelerate the delivery of transformative medicines to patients.

The

Opportunity
  • Landscape, identify and critically assess emerging biomarker testing solutions with potential to accelerate translational research and clinical biomarker development across multiple disease areas (e.g., Oncology, Immunology, CVRM).
  • Lead the design and execution of proof‑of‑concept, pilot and development studies to validate novel biomarker technologies.
  • Drive cross‑functional technology development projects from concept through implementation, coordinating matrixed teams across Translational Medicine, Research, Diagnostics, and Data Sciences.
  • Manage relationships with external technology providers (CROs, diagnostic companies, biotech partners) to ensure high‑quality assay development and data delivery.
  • Assess translational potential, value and operational readiness of new biomarker assays and analytic tools for specific intended uses, ensuring scientific rigor, scalability, and alignment with TM objectives.
  • Contribute scientific and strategic insight to project proposals, governance discussions, and investment prioritization decisions.
  • Analyze complex biomarker data sets to assess assay performance and clinical utility.
  • Communicate complex scientific and strategic concepts effectively to diverse audiences, including leadership, collaborators, and cross‑functional partners.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and collaboration within Translational Medicine by promoting curiosity, creativity, and scientific excellence.
Who You Are
  • Advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in molecular biology, genomics, biomedical engineering, computational biology, or related discipline
    .
  • 5+ years of experience in translational research, diagnostic assay development, or biomarker technology innovation within a biotech, pharma, or academic environment.
  • Strong technical foundation in one or more translational biomarker domains such as advanced clinical genomics, proteomics, liquid biopsy, spatial biology, digital pathology
    .
  • Proven ability to lead matrixed, cross‑functional projects with diverse scientific and operational stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated strategic and executional skills in biomarker technology evaluation, development and implementation in translational research.
  • Strong scientific communication, influence, and relationship‑building abilities across technical and leadership audiences.
  • Capable of working independently and in dynamic, uncertain environments with evolving priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with data analytics, bioinformatics workflows, diagnostic assay development or validation, and using AI to improve everyday productivity
