Senior Director, Medical Strategy & Stakeholder Management — South San Francisco, CA

IDEAYA Biosciences is a precision medicine oncology company committed to discovering, developing, and commercializing transformative therapies for cancer. Our approach integrates expertise in small‑molecule drug discovery, structural biology, and bioinformatics with robust internal capabilities in identifying and validating translational biomarkers to develop tailored, potentially first‑in‑class targeted therapies aligned to the genetic drivers of disease.

Position Summary

Reporting to: VP Medical Affairs Strategy

This pivotal leadership role involves designing, executing, and overseeing the Medical Affairs strategy across pre‑launch, launch, and commercialization stages. You will ensure medical initiatives align with corporate objectives and provide high‑quality evidence‑based information to internal and external stakeholders. The position is based in South San Francisco and requires onsite attendance four days per week.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, develop, and execute the Medical Affairs strategy in alignment with company objectives, as part of a multi‑year pre‑launch and launch plan focused on enabling patient access and improving health outcomes.
  • Lead Patient Advocacy strategy and engagement, including coordination with ex‑US partners and organizations, as needed.
  • Develop and lead Key Opinion Leader (KOL) engagement initiatives, establishing and sustaining strong relationships with KOLs, academic institutions, and medical societies.
  • Oversee planning, development, and execution of advisory boards and other insight‑generating activities.
  • Deliver cross‑functional medical and scientific leadership expertise to support regulatory approval strategies and the clinical evaluation and mitigation of product‑related risks in preparation for launch.
  • Provide strategic medical input with Clinical Development and Commercial to support product launch preparation and lifecycle management.
  • Lead the strategy for medical education and medical conferences, representing IDEAYA Biosciences by providing scientific expertise at key events.
  • Ensure adherence to all applicable regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Contribute to cross‑functional scientific, medical, and regulatory review teams as required.
Qualifications
  • Graduate degree (PhD or Pharm

    D preferred).
  • 8–10 years of experience in Medical Affairs or related fields (health economics, epidemiology, health services research).
  • Demonstrated success in planning and executing medical strategies, including experience in developing data generation and communication strategies within oncology.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, capable of conveying complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences including Patient Advocacy groups, KOLs, and medical societies.
  • Proven ability to independently manage complex non‑interventional study projects.
  • Strong leadership abilities with a proven capacity to inspire, motivate, and foster effective cross‑functional collaboration.
  • Deep understanding of the U.S. healthcare system, including regulatory frameworks, payer dynamics, and healthcare provider networks.
  • Strong interpersonal skills essential for interacting and communicating effectively with a wide range of internal and external partners.
  • Experience in a fast‑paced, rapidly growing, smaller company preferred.

The expected salary range for this role is $277,000 – $342,000, depending on experience and other factors.
