Job Title: Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Engineer
Location: San Diego, CA 92121 (On-site)
Pay Rate: $39.86 – $57.97 per hour
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (flexibility as needed)

We are seeking an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Engineer to support the development, implementation, and maintenance of safety programs within a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical facility. This hands-on role focuses on regulatory compliance, hazardous and biological waste management, risk assessments, and emergency response coordination. The EHS Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify safety risks, promote a proactive safety culture, and ensure a safe environment across office, manufacturing, laboratory, and vivarium operations.

• Develop and maintain EHS programs including Hazard Communication, Lockout/Tagout, Waste Management, and Ergonomics.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, CUPA, and local fire safety regulations.
• Oversee hazardous and biological waste management, including labeling, storage, and disposal.
• Utilize the California Environmental Reporting System (CERS) for San Diego County hazardous materials reporting.
• Conduct routine safety inspections, audits, and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) to identify and mitigate workplace risks.
• Lead incident investigations, determine root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).
• Coordinate emergency preparedness activities, including drills and Emergency Response Team (ERT) training.
• Develop and deliver EHS training programs for new and existing employees.
• Maintain EHS documentation, permits, and compliance records while tracking safety metrics for leadership.
• Manage chemical inventories and provide guidance on chemical safety and spill response procedures.
• Support IACUC, animal care, and husbandry safety requirements as needed.

• Minimum 5 years of experience in an Environmental Health & Safety role, preferably within biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or manufacturing environments

• Professional certification in Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field preferred.
• Experience working with hazardous materials, biological waste management, and regulatory compliance programs

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and EHS reporting or database systems.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as respirators and lab coats.
