The Fountain Group is a national staffing firm, and we are currently seeking a
EHS Specialist II for a prominent client of ours. This position is in South San Francisco, CA (On-Site). Details for the position are as follows:

Pay Rate:$44–$48/hour

Position Summary

The EHS Specialist II provides hands‑on leadership and technical expertise to ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) regulations. This role partners closely with plant leadership and employees to proactively manage risk, implement EHS programs, and promote a strong safety culture in a regulated manufacturing environment.

Strong knowledge and hands‑on experience with OSHA and safety regulations is required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement and maintain Chemical Process Safety (CPS) and EHS programs to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct risk assessments for new systems, processes, and facility changes; recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Lead plant incident investigations (fire, spill, medical, near‑miss), including root cause analysis and corrective action planning.
  • Develop, revise, and deliver EHS and safety training based on regulatory changes, SOP updates, and corporate requirements.
  • Facilitate and support the Plant Safety Committee, providing guidance and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lead EHS self‑assessments, audits, and inspections; track and close corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain EHS procedures, programs, and documentation aligned with global, federal, and local standards.
  • Provide EHS guidance to cross‑functional departments to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and local regulations.
  • Maintain regulatory recordkeeping, reporting systems, and compliance metrics.
  • Ensure reliability and effectiveness of safety equipment, engineering controls, and emergency response systems.
  • Exercise stop‑work authority when operations pose a risk to employee safety, property, or the environment.
Scope & Authority
  • Accountable for employee safety, environmental protection, regulatory compliance, and EHS program effectiveness.
  • Authorized to identify, propose, and lead EHS improvement initiatives and capital projects.
  • Responsible for evaluating operational risk and determining adequacy of safety controls and facilities.
  • Provides technical EHS expertise and guidance across all departments.
Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Safety, or related science discipline.
Experience
  • 2+
    years
    of experience of EHS work in a regulated manufacturing, chemical, pharmaceutical, or industrial environment.
  • Hands‑on experience with OSHA, EPA, and local regulatory compliance.
Technical Knowledge
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and state regulations.
  • Familiarity with FDA and Quality System regulations (medical device, biotech, or pharma preferred).
  • Understanding of general industry safety standards (NIOSH, ANSI).
  • Experience with process safety equipment and controls (e.g., relief valves, flame arresters, explosion relief panels).
  • Proficiency in EHS systems, databases, reporting tools, and electronic tracking systems.
Skills & Abilities
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and risk assessment skills.
  • Ability to respond quickly and effectively to emergency and high‑risk situations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to influence safety culture.
  • Capable of working independently while collaborating cross‑functionally.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish (written and verbal), highly preferred.
  • Able to work in an industrial environment, including walking, standing, and sitting for extended periods.
  • Flexible schedule availability, including off‑shift or extended hours as needed.
