Job Description & How to Apply Below

Torus is headquartered in Utah and is expanding manufacturing at our 540,000-square-foot facility in Salt Lake City called Giga One. Our mission is to build the world’s first mesh energy infrastructure — built to unite people and communities through resilient, secure, and intelligent power. We design, engineer, manufacture, install, and support our systems end-to-end, standing behind them throughout their lifecycle. Torus systems help reduce costs, lower emissions, and protect facilities from outages, while strengthening the security and reliability of the broader utility grid.

Torus is committed to American manufacturing, engineering excellence, and building energy systems that last.

At Torus, you will be part of something larger than a single product or technology. Your work will help build energy infrastructure that supports critical systems, industry, and communities for decades to come. We value accountability, collaboration, and clear thinking. We are looking for people who want to solve hard problems and build things that matter.

About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented Power Systems Electrical Engineer to design, assemble, install, and maintain electrical distribution grid equipment (1000v and below), including energy storage, LV power distribution systems, grid-tied inverters, motor drives, and control panels for industrial and commercial applications. This role, based in our South Salt Lake manufacturing plant, requires excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.

Responsibilities

Design and Development:
  • Develop AC/DC power distribution systems and control panel designs based on project requirements and industry standards (NEC, UL, IEEE, etc.).
  • Tune and commission grid‑tied inverters and motor drive systems to ensure stability during operation.
  • Conduct short circuit studies, load flow analysis, and protection coordination studies for DERs, industrial facilities, and commercial buildings.
  • Prepare design calculations, material selection guidelines, technical reports, and budget estimates for energy storage system development and testing.
  • Create engineering deliverables, including electrical schematics, SLDs, cabinet layouts, O&M manuals, FAT and SAT protocols, and specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with local and regional codes, including NFPA 70.
Research, Development, and Prototype Assembly:
  • Manage the Electrical Engineering lab and lead R&D efforts for early product development.
  • Assemble electrical control panels in accordance with UL 508A.
  • Transition product development activities to production, including wiring diagrams, SOPs, and test procedures.
Collaboration and Support:
  • Write and maintain development software and write code to query memory registers in inverters and other renewable energy devices.
  • Document findings of best practices of querying memory registers.
  • Collaborate with firmware engineers to improve product integration and control.
Documentation and Compliance:
  • Maintain accurate records of panel designs, modifications, and testing procedures.
  • Assist in creating installation and service manuals for products.
  • Ensure compliance with electrical codes, standards, and safety regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of experience in electrical panel design, assembly, and troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical and experience with Solid Works.
  • Strong understanding of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and circuit design.
  • Hands‑on experience with electrical tools and equipment.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Experience
  • Familiarity with renewable energy equipment and installations.
  • Knowledge of C++, Python, Arduino, and MODBUS programming and protocols.
  • Familiarity with PLCs, HMIs, and industrial automation systems.
