About

The Role

We’re looking for an experienced electrical engineer and/or electrician to design commercial and industrial battery storage systems. As an Energy Storage Design Engineer, you’ll visit customer sites, assess their electrical infrastructure, and create preliminary system designs that are ready for permitting and installation. This role focuses on 208 V/480 V applications and requires translating complex technical solutions into clear value propositions for business customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive site assessments for commercial and industrial customers to gather essential data for project planning.
  • Develop preliminary system designs to facilitate early‑stage project discussions.
  • Act as the primary point of contact with customers during the design and installation process, maintaining regular communication to keep them informed.
  • Translate complex technical systems and industrial‑grade processes into clear, accessible concepts for non‑technical decision makers.
  • Analyze energy usage and operational performance data to inform design decisions and optimize system performance.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure a seamless transition from design to implementation.
  • Validate that systems are installed according to plan and meet customer expectations, which may involve travel to customer locations.
  • This is a hybrid position with approximately 70 % work performed from home and 30 % travel for site visits and project evaluations. Travel is primarily day trips within Utah, with occasional overnight stays in‑state or out‑of‑state as projects require.
Required Experience
  • Typically requires a degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related technical field; however, diverse learning paths are valued, including Journeyman Lineman or Electrician credentials.
  • 3–5+ years of experience conducting system design and site evaluations for commercial, industrial, and renewable energy projects, focusing on performance, cost‑efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience with low‑voltage electrical systems and power distribution (208 V/480 V).
  • Strong familiarity with applicable codes and standards governing renewable energy systems and storage installations, including the National Electrical Code (NEC) and other relevant local and national regulations.
  • Solid understanding of renewable energy technologies, including battery storage solutions, grid‑tied systems, and emerging trends shaping the commercial and industrial energy landscape.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate complex technical information into clear, actionable insights for stakeholders at all levels.
  • Highly developed problem‑solving skills and strong attention to detail, ensuring quality and consistency throughout all project phases.
  • Valid driver’s license, satisfactory driving record, and ability to operate a company vehicle.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience working with construction and installation crews.
  • Experience with design rendering using Aurora (preferred) or similar tools like Solo.
  • NABCEP Board Certification.
Our Perks & Benefits
