Qualifications
  • Requires a Utah State Board of Education (USBE) approved cleared criminal background check.
  • Requires a bachelor9s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Applicant must either have a current Professional Utah Elementary teaching license or a current out-of-state professional elementary license.
  • New graduates from teacher preparation programs who have not yet received their official teaching license should upload a conferral letter from their university in place of the license. The conferral letter must be on official university letterhead and must include: the degree earned; the anticipated graduation date; the type of license and content area(s) in which the candidate will be recommended to the Utah State Board of Education.
  • Candidates must have officially graduated prior to the position start date. An official copy of the teaching license and degree will be required upon hire. mtrujillo

Responsibilities
  • Teach the core content area(s) outlined in the USBE Core Curriculum, adopted by the Board of Education, and correlated with other approved learning activities.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials; provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to student needs.
  • Utilize effective teaching techniques to translate lesson plans into productive student learning experiences within available instruction time.
  • Utilize computers and other technological classroom support equipment in student instruction.
  • Supervise students indoors and outdoors (e.g., recess, gym activities) in all weather and air quality conditions.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere; apply organization and discipline strategies as needed.
  • Evaluate students9 academic and social growth, maintain records, and prepare progress reports.
  • Be familiar with and willing to implement Proficiency-Based Learning and the Granite Way in evaluating students.
  • Communicate with parents through conferences, calls, emails, student planners, school website, and other appropriate means to discuss progress.
  • Collaborate with other professional staff regarding student growth areas.
  • Attendance, presence, and timeliness are essential functions of this position.
  • Provide an effective learning environment with functional displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
  • Provide and maintain a safe and supportive classroom and school environment.
  • Maintain professional competence through in-service education and self-directed growth activities.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and appropriate educator evaluation procedures; administer attendance policies and group standardized tests as required.
  • Participate in faculty committees and sponsor student activities; select and requisition books and instructional materials; maintain inventory records.
  • Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, colleagues, and the community; adhere to laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, school staff, district staff, and community members; be a positive role model.
