Reporting directly to the Dean of Arts and Sciences, the Associate Dean for STEM and Research will advance recruitment, retention, and learning at the undergraduate and graduate levels in STEM programs; promote research and grantsmanship across the sciences; help optimize laboratory usage for both teaching and research; and steward academic program development in the STEM fields throughout the College. Duties

and Responsibilities
  • Work with the Office of Admissions, the Office of the Provost, and colleagues in the Office of the Dean to recruit undergraduate and graduate students to STEM programs. The Associate Dean will lead the College’s efforts to increase applications and yield by collaborating with colleagues to run successful open houses, webinars, advertising campaigns, and other recruitment efforts.
  • Work with STEM chairs, directors of graduate studies, faculty, and others to facilitate student success, research, and retention. The Associate Dean will oversee the Dean’s Undergraduate STEM Connect Research Grants and other initiatives to foster student research, collaborate with colleagues to supervise the Clare Boothe Luce Graduate Fellowships, and lead efforts to help students succeed in courses that have historically impeded their path to graduation in STEM programs.
  • Work with the Office of Grants and Research Services, the Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations, and others to increase grant, corporate and foundation funding of the College’s research and teaching endeavors. This work will include proactively aligning significant funding opportunities with faculty research and providing the encouragement, assistance, and resources necessary to ensure faculty submit competitive proposals.
  • Work with STEM chairs, directors, faculty and other stakeholders to strengthen existing STEM programs and to develop new programs that are academically rigorous and financially viable.
  • Work with chairs, laboratory directors, faculty and administrators to oversee STEM labs in the College. The Associate Dean will advise and assist with safety, compliance, and risk management; financial management and resource allocation; and laboratory modernization and expansion.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
