Position: Assistant Professor of Counselor Education (Tenure-Track)

The College of Human Development, Culture, and Media at Seton Hall University invites applications for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor in Counselor Education, beginning in August, 2026.

Duties and Responsibilities

This position is part of a multiyear strategic infusion of resources into our Counselor Education graduate portfolio, currently with specialties in Professional Counseling and School Counseling. The candidate will support accreditation efforts, maintain a strong presence on the South Orange campus, and engage in high‑impact activities with students, including teaching, advisement, mentoring, and academic program development.

The role includes a 9‑credit teaching requirement during the Fall and Spring semesters (three courses per semester), as well as a comprehensive research agenda with active participation in grant and partnership pursuits. The following responsibilities apply:

  • Dedication to research, teaching, and service.
  • 18‑credit teaching load per academic year, including Counselor Education–related course assignments.
  • Establish and maintain a robust scholarly agenda commensurate with a tenure‑track appointment at an R2 university, including pursuit of external funding.
  • Active service across the University, College, Department, and discipline.
  • Curriculum development, program assessment, review, and revision.
  • Student advisement and mentorship.
  • A commitment to the University's Mission.
About the College of Human Development, Culture, and Media

Launched in Summer 2023, Seton Hall’s College of Human Development, Culture, and Media (CHDCM) embraces pedagogical innovation, intellectual ferment, and community engagement. The College houses four dynamic departments—Communication, Media, and the Arts;
Education Leadership, Management, and Policy;
Educational Studies; and Professional Psychology and Family Therapy—and supports transdisciplinary inquiry into contemporary challenges.

With roughly 1,550 students and about 70 full‑time faculty, CHDCM is the second‑largest college at Seton Hall.

Required Qualifications
  • Earned doctoral degree in Counselor Education from an accredited institution, or fulfillment of CACREP core faculty requirements.
  • Record of, or potential for, a scholarly research agenda with significant publications and/or grants.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with students and colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience teaching courses on‑campus and in alternate modalities (asynchronous and hybrid) with demonstrated effectiveness.
  • Background in a CACREP‑recognized specialization.
  • Licensed or license‑eligible in Professional Counseling and/or School Counseling in the state of New Jersey.
  • Demonstrated evidence of, or potential for, grant writing.
  • Interest in interdisciplinary collaborations, research, and academic innovation across the College's departments and the University.
Salary Range

$83,142 - $92,381
