The College of Human Development, Culture, and Media at Seton Hall University invites applications for a Lecturer of Communication (contract faculty) position in the Department of Communication, Media, and the Arts beginning in August 2026.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Department of Communication, Media and Arts fosters academic interdisciplinarity, and its engaging curriculum primes students to immediately launch careers or to pursue advanced degrees. Students are prepared to practice in a multimedia world, thanks to their experience with cutting‑edge tools and unparalleled, studio‑based learning opportunities. They attain an expert's facility with the complexity of sharing messages across all media to create shared meaning and understanding among diverse groups.

The candidate will be expected to maintain a strong presence on our South Orange, NJ residential campus while engaging in an array of high‑impact activities with students that include teaching, advisement, mentoring, and academic program development.

The position entails a 12‑credit teaching requirement during the Fall and Spring semesters (i.e., 4 courses per semester), commensurate with Department needs. Lecturers are initially appointed for a one‑year term, which may be renewed and extended for a period of up to three years by the University; there is no limit on the number of renewals that may be sought, subject to Department and College needs.

Lecturers are also eligible for promotion to the rank of Senior Lecturer.

Duties and Responsibilities (list)
  • Lecturers teach four courses (12 credit hours) per semester on the South Orange campus. Potential courses to be taught include COST 1600 - Speaking and Listening in a Digital Age, COMM 1670 Introduction to Communication Theory, COMM 2623 Persuasive Speaking, COMM 2625 - Public and Presentational Speaking, and COMM 2626 Rhetorical Criticism. Additional courses within the Department are possible commensurate with expertise.
