Job Title
Senior Water Utility Technician – Springbrook Wastewater Operations division.
Salary & Benefits- Salary: $30.3975 per hour at Step 1.
- Union: IBEW Local 196.
- Benefits subject to the collective bargaining agreement.
- 2025 starting salary; 2026 wage upon new CB agreement.

Job TypeFull-Time.
Responsibilities- Observe and adjust performance of various biological and physical treatment units and perform related limited maintenance work as necessary.
- Calculate required pumping and chemical feed rates.
- Collect and perform laboratory analyses of wastewater and biosolids samples for process control purposes.
- Gather and record operations data related to numerous treatment units and process control parameters.
- Operate process equipment required to dewater biosolids.
- Operate various vehicular equipment including tractors, rubber-tire end loaders, backhoe/loaders, and trucks.
- Monitor work zones for unsafe conditions and take corrective action when warranted; report such conditions to supervisor as appropriate.
- Adhere to proper safety-related policies and practices and practice safety procedures in the performance of all job duties.
- Perform janitorial duties required for the maintenance of the Administration Building and other structures on the plant site as necessary.
- Maintain plant site and grounds including snow removal with snow plows, snow blowers, and shovels; mow lawn areas; install and/or maintain flowers, shrubs, bushes, and trees.
- Provide input to Wastewater Operations Supervisor and Field Supervisor on operational and condition of treatment processes; suggest changes to operational procedures and parameters.
- Direct work activities of temporary employees when assigned.
- Operate and adjust controls related to the operation of the City’s water supply facilities.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Required:
- Minimum of three years of responsible experience in the operation and maintenance of an advanced wastewater treatment facility, water supply facility, or related environment.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Illinois EPA Class 3 Wastewater Operator certification, or a current Operator‑In‑Training (Class
3) certificate applicable to activated sludge treatment plants, or the ability (and written commitment) to obtain full Class 3 certification within 24 months of hire. - Valid State of Illinois Driver’s License. Must obtain a valid State of Illinois Class C driver’s license within three months of hire.
- Preferred:
- Training in wastewater treatment, water treatment, mechanical maintenance, or related field.
