The Construction Manager will be responsible for overseeing on‑site construction activities, coordinating with engineering and inspection teams, managing contractors, and ensuring projects are delivered in compliance with approved plans, specifications, schedules, and budgets. This role will work closely with public agency clients and project stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.
Responsibilities- Manage day‑to‑day on‑site construction operations for transportation and civil infrastructure projects
- Coordinate with Resident Engineers, Assistant Resident Engineers, inspectors, contractors, and design teams
- Ensure construction activities comply with contract documents, plans, specifications, and applicable standards
- Monitor project schedules, costs, quantities, and construction progress
- Review and process RFIs, submittals, change orders, and pay estimates
- Ensure compliance with IDOT, ISTHA, CDOT, and local agency requirements
- Enforce safety standards, traffic control plans, and quality control procedures
- Identify project risks and resolve construction issues in a timely manner
- Prepare and review construction documentation, reports, and project records
- Support project closeout activities, including final inspections and documentation
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in construction management or construction engineering
- Experience on transportation or civil infrastructure projects
- Prior experience working with IDOT projects is strongly preferred
- Experience with Illinois Tollway (ISTHA) and/or Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) projects is a plus
- Familiarity with IDOT policies, procedures, and documentation requirements
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and contract documents
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to work full‑time on‑site in Chicago and surrounding suburbs
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Illinois
- IDOT Documentation of Quantities Certification
- Previous experience serving as a Construction Manager, Project Manager, Resident Engineer (RE), or Assistant Resident Engineer (ARE)
- Experience managing multiple contractors and complex construction schedules
