Overview

The City of South Lake Tahoe is seeking a dynamic and community-focused Recreation Program Coordinator to join our Parks and Recreation Department. This is an exceptional opportunity to facilitate programming at our brand-new, state-of-the-art Recreation and Aquatics Center. We're looking for a motivated and experienced leader to help shape this dynamic facility into a vibrant hub for community connection, health, and recreation.

The Recreation Program Coordinator for the City of South Lake Tahoe plans, organizes, and oversees a variety of recreation programs with a primary focus on youth and adult sports league programming.

Responsibilities
  • Under general supervision, coordinates the development, implementation, and evaluation of leagues, tournaments, clinics, and camps; manages schedules, registrations, staffing, facilities, and equipment; prepares and monitors program budgets; and ensures safe, inclusive, and well-organized operations.
  • Supervises part-time and volunteer staff; works independently with minimal direction.
  • Provides administrative support and program assistance to the Recreation Supervisor, and collaborates with schools, community organizations, and partner agencies to enhance recreation opportunities for the community.

Education and Experience Guidelines

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education/Training

A Bachelor7s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation, leisure studies, physical education, public administration, business administration, or related field is desired.

Bilingual skills (English and Spanish) are highly desirable.

Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and evenings, as need for programming and events.

License or Certificate

Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California or Nevada driver7s license. Possession of, or ability to obtain, certificates in CPR and advanced first aid.

Experience

Two years of community service or recreation program coordination and implementation experience specific to park ranger programs, campground, golf course, aquatics or youth program operations.

Environment

Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment and at indoor and outdoor recreational facilities; travel to different locations; incumbents may be exposed to inclement weather conditions and may have some contact with chemical agents used in pool maintenance; work and/or walk on various types of surfaces including slippery or uneven surface.

Physical

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office and recreation facility setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard;

and to verbally communicate to exchange information.

Vision

See in the normal visual range with or without correction.

Hearing

Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
