Overview

The Health and Human Services Agency of the County of El Dorado is committed to transforming lives and improving futures for the citizens of El Dorado County. The Social Services, Child Welfare division focuses on improving the quality of life for residents, including identifying and addressing child abuse and neglect and supporting families in their homes.

Opportunity

The Social Worker III carries a complex caseload involving determination of need for social services for individuals and families (including children and adults); conducts assessments and eligibility determinations with individualized case plans; may serve as a lead worker over subordinate professional staff; provides comprehensive casework services and performs related duties as assigned.

The selected candidate will have the opportunity to:

  • Receive and respond to reports of suspected abuse, neglect, exploitation; investigate and assess situations to protect vulnerable adults; may assist law enforcement or district attorneys; may be on-call and may testify in court.
  • Perform case studies and evaluate case information to assess safety and determine treatment approaches.
  • Develop and carry out case plans for an assigned caseload; ensure services are delivered respectfully and in accordance with agency, state, and federal requirements; assist clients and families to achieve case plan goals.
  • Counsel or support clients with complex needs; provide crisis intervention.
  • Refer clients to other staff or community resources; advocate for the most appropriate services, including enabling services.
  • Make a diagnosis of client problems and follow through with social treatment plans with a high degree of independence.

Qualifications and Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • One (1) year of full-time experience performing journey-level social work case management equivalent to the County's class of Social Worker II; OR
  • Two (2) years of full-time journey-level social work case management experience in a public or private agency, and thirty (30) semester units or forty-five (45) quarter units from an accredited college or university, including fifteen (15) semester units or twenty-two and one-half (22.5) quarter units in social welfare, social/human services, sociology, or other social or behavioral science.

Notes:
Qualifying social work case management includes direct case work management such as assessment, evaluation, investigations of abuse/neglect/exploitation; preparation of court reports; long-term caseload management; home visits and client contact; collaboration with other agencies and linking clients to resources; development of case plans with modifications as needed; and authority to impact services.

    Certifications:

    Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California or Nevada Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record.
Additional Information

The County of El Dorado is recruiting for the Social Worker III. This recruitment will establish a list to fill current and future vacancies for at least three months, including full-time, part-time, limited term, and extra-help positions. Some terms may transition to regular employment where allowed by policy.
