Job Overview
A Telecom Foreman is responsible for installing communications cabling and equipment in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes, and standards. The role requires experience with installing equipment using hand and power tools, understanding Telecom Systems, blueprints, and knowledge of relevant codes and standards. Telecom Foremen are full-time employees with company benefits.
Responsibilities- Knowledge and safe use of hand tools and various power tools
- Wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Following safety policies and procedures
- Participating in daily safety and work briefings
- Installing various types of low voltage cable
- Managing small to large projects with 5 or more personnel at multiple locations
- Consulting with senior management and supervisory personnel to resolve work procedures, complaints, and construction issues
- Scheduling projects in logical steps to meet deadlines within budget
- Interpreting and explaining plans and specifications to field workers
- Having knowledge of BICSI and TIA/EIA standards for proper installation and termination procedures
- Terminating, testing, and troubleshooting low voltage cabling (fiber optics, Cat 5, Cat
6) - Installing pathways, cable trays, and telecommunications devices
- Installing prefabricated components and assemblies
- Installing telecommunications grounding systems
- Training and supervising technicians and apprentices in a team environment
- Performing quality assurance checks on team’s work
- Maintaining a clean work area and participating in job site cleanup
- Managing tools and materials, including tool inspections and sign-in/out procedures
- Preparing and submitting daily reports on hours and units worked
- 8+ years of experience in the commercial communications industry
- High school diploma or GED
- BICSI Technician certification
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Ability to pass background check and drug test
- Ability to pass basic telecommunication knowledge test
- Strong punctuality, teamwork, and safety awareness
- Dress code: long pants and shirts covering shoulders (not provided)
- Basic tools from provided list before first day
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly
- Ability to work at heights up to 60 feet, including climbing ladders and scaffolds
- Physical stamina to perform tasks such as walking, climbing, lifting, and reaching
- Good vision and hearing, ability to communicate in English
- Recognize problems or potential issues
- Ability to analyze and draw conclusions from information
- Close-range vision and detailed observation skills
- Willingness to obtain BICSI Technician Certification if not already certified
- Manufacture and fiber certifications
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications
