Schedule & Hours

Weekend and holiday coverage. This position will work with both Acute Care Physical Therapy and Outpatient Physical Therapy. This is a day shift position and requires Saturday hours as well as holiday rotation. Work hours are 7:30am - 4:00pm.

Responsibilities

The Physical Therapist is primarily responsible for the delivery of physical therapy care to the patient population to which she/he is assigned and the recording of that care in the hospital medical record.

The therapist acts as a consultant to various patient clinics, provides instruction to PT support staff, students, personnel of other disciplines within VCUHS, and patient and/or family members.

Therapists may rotate through our various clinical service areas.

Licensure & Certification
  • Licensed (or licensure eligible) by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Physical Therapist (for hire)
  • Current license by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Physical Therapist (for continued employment)
  • Current CPR Certification if required by clinic or practice area (for continued employment)
Experience
  • REQUIRED: New graduate to up to 2 years of work experience as a Physical Therapist
  • PREFERRED: Previous affiliation or work experience at a similar facility
Education
  • REQUIRED: Graduate of an accredited School of Physical Therapy
  • PREFERRED: Masters or Doctoral Degree from an accredited School of Physical Therapy
Independent Actions
  • Patient evaluation and implementation of plan of care, discharge planning.
  • Ordering equipment.
  • Representing department at rounds and discharge conferences.
  • Scheduling and charging patients.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • May have supervisory responsibilities of Physical Therapist Assistants, Rehab Technicians, students, and volunteers.
  • Employee is a member of a self‑directed team and applies knowledge and experience in daily clinic problem solving.
  • The team will bring unresolved issues to departmental manager for assistance and guidance in their resolution.

Position Requirements
  • Schedules and work hours will be established with your specific Manager. Schedules, including weekends and holidays, will be required based on the unit's organizational and staffing needs.

  • Physical:
    Lifting 50-100 lbs.
