Overview
Responsible and accountable for the respiratory management, treatment, control and care of patients with respiratory deficiencies. Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients. The individual must exhibit knowledge of the principles of growth and development from newborn to geriatric patient population. RCP must possess the ability to assess data reflective of patient status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs.
RCP must be able to provide the care indicated with respect to department policy and procedures. With consideration to age, employee utilizes the approved process to resolve biophysical, psychological educational, and environmental needs of the patient/significant other when administering care. This position is the first step in our clinical career ladder.

- Provide respiratory management, treatment, control and care for patients with respiratory deficiencies.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care from newborn to geriatric patients.
- Assess data reflective of patient status and interpret information to identify patient requirements related to age-specific needs.
- Adhere to department policies and procedures when delivering care.
- Utilize approved processes to address biophysical, psychological, educational, and environmental needs of the patient/significant other when administering care.
- Act as the first step in the clinical career ladder.
- Possess knowledge of all modes of therapy performed within this institution.
- Be able to operate computers (mouse and Windows applications).
- Auscultate the chest, perform physical assessment, and monitor vital signs.
- Operate electronic monitoring devices with competence.
- Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills.
- Willing and able to accept the responsibilities of the position.
- Licensed RCP by the State of California.
- Current Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential.
- New grad, 6 months experience preferred.
- Competent to assess appropriate care for pediatric, adolescent, or geriatric patients.
- Maintain Adult ACLS, BCLS, Pediatric (PALS) certification required.
- If ACLS and PALS are not present at hire, obtain within six months of hire.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Los Angeles County Fire Card; if not present at hire, obtain within six months.
- Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) may be required at certain locations.
