RN – Critical Care – Emergency Department
Registered Nurse will support the ER initiative and provide quality patient care, managing individualized, goal‑directed nursing care through the nursing process and principles of primary nursing, in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
The RN is responsible for planning and coordination of care across the continuum, meeting compliance with core measures, contributing to reduction in length of stay (LOS), and participating in all aspects of quality, safety and performance improvement activities. Collaboration with multidisciplinary team members demonstrates outstanding customer service to patients, family members, physicians and the public, and the RN meets and exceeds Department of Health Services, The Joint Commission and other regulatory requirements.
- Assesses the patient and family needs to provide quality care to assigned patients.
- Develops, discusses and communicates a realistic problem list (plan of care) for each patient in collaboration with the patient/family/significant other to address all identified needs.
- Implements the medical plan of care, nursing interventions, and procedures as necessary for patient care.
- Evaluates identified problems, care provided, and patient responses, reassessing to meet patient and family needs and ensure overall quality of care.
- Maintains up‑to‑date and accurate documentation of nursing care to support the healthcare team and ensure quality care.
- Maintains current knowledge, certification, and licensure; pursues professional growth and development.
- Functions as a role model for current and new staff and performs patient/customer initiatives to keep patients and families satisfied.
- Performs all responsibilities and duties required by the critical care division, addressing the unique needs of the client, including age considerations.
- Attends all required safety training programs and explains responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job‑related hazards.
- Adheres to hospital exposure control plans for blood borne and airborne pathogens.
- Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
- Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team, both inter‑ and intra‑departmentally, to facilitate the unit’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.
- Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
BSN preferred.
Minimum Work Experience
Basic Computer Skills
Required Licenses/Certifications
- Current California RN license
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications
- Preferred: PALS certification, or within 30 days of hire
- Preferred:
Basic Dysrhythmia certificate
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Leadership, interpersonal, communication, teamwork, quality improvement, and professionalism
- Proficiency in written and oral English
- Preferred:
Bilingual in Spanish
