Scopeof Responsibilities
- Develop and manage lock‑out tag‑out program, training, keys, and locks.
- Develop, conduct, and track safety training.
- Champion a Zero Injury work environment for all associates.
- Monitor associates on the production/shop floor, communicate and facilitate hazard elimination strategies with front‑line supervisors.
- Maintain record‑keeping systems and prepare technical reports.
- Coordinate and conduct site inspections and audits, ensuring preservation of operation logs.
- Sustain various EHS programs, lock‑out placards, Job Hazard Analyses, etc.; assist supervision with Safety Layered Process Audits (LPA).
- Monitor use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work practices.
- Organize and conduct safety training, inductions, and toolbox talks.
- Promote a proactive safety culture throughout the organization.
- Assist with incident investigations and follow‑up on closure reports.
- Provide constructive feedback and communication on identified issues.
- Maintain positive attitude, teamwork, and cooperation.
- Partner with managers and supervisors to drive safety initiatives.
- Review chemicals on site and verify current SDS are in the online system.
- Monitor contractors for compliance with EHS program and training requirements.
- Help facilitate site security initiatives.
- Perform other safety duties as assigned.
- Implement corrective actions for identified safety improvements.
- Support Safety Kaizen events, targeting hazards needing improvement.
- Provide leadership to create effective safety teams and programs.
- Travel required 5% of the time.
- Report to Operations Manager.
- Assist with training, hazard identification, ergonomic studies, etc.; administer first aid to employees as needed.
- Bachelor's degree in environmental science or equivalent work experience in environmental, health and safety fields in a plant environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel).
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Excellent time‑management skills and ability to meet goals and deadlines.
- Degree in Environmental Health and Safety or related field, or 7 years’ experience equivalent.
- Food manufacturing experience.
- Knowledge of local, state and federal safety compliance and regulatory issues (OSHA Act, OSHA 10 or 30‑hour training).
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar desired.
- Attention to detail, self‑directed, and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to adapt to changing organizational needs and lead others through change.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong knowledge of safety management systems.
- Strong team player and leader capable of working across functions and disciplines.
- Ability to select, coach, develop, engage, and retain talent.
- Regular exposure to cold, hot, and/or humid conditions.
- Adherence to all safety rules and use of PPE.
- Climate extremes across plant operations.
- Frequent work near moving and mechanical parts.
- Possible exposure to fumes and airborne particles.
- Loud noise environment.
- Subject to changing priorities, time pressures, constraints, and high stress.
- Required use of PPE when working around moving machinery.
