Maintenance Technician

We are currently seeking a full time maintenance technician to provide assistance in the care of the facility physical plant and grounds. Specific duties include:

• Perform various routine maintenance tasks utilizing painting, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and mechanical skills as is appropriate.
• Maintain lawn, landscaping, building exteriors, snow and ice removal.
• Identifies and corrects unsafe work conditions and safety hazards.
• Collect and dispose of refuse.

• Assists in performance of preventive maintenance tasks.
• Clean, strip, seal, wax and buff floors.

• Clean walls, windows, fixtures and assist housekeeping department with some heavy cleaning.
• Must perform preventative maintenance and safety standards as outlined by federal guidelines.

• Monitor and prioritize work requests.
• Documents work completed and in progress in accordance with departmental standards.

• Maintain records of maintenance activities/preventive maintenance actions.

• High school graduate or equivalent
• Experience in institutional maintenance and/or housekeeping is preferred.
• Experience with floor care equipment is helpful.

• Maintenance staff must be available to work in inclement weather.
• Must be available to work on call, to ensure 24 hour coverage of department.
• Must be able to work nights, weekends, holidays and on call on a rotating schedule as directed by supervisor.
• Prior experience in institutional maintenance is necessary.
• Ability to read blueprints/construction drawings.
• Excellent physical health is necessary. Must be able to walk and/or stand for extended periods of time

Built largely by tremendous community support from surrounding ranchers, farmers, and small business entrepreneurs, PHS gives back to our small rural community with as much dedication. PHS and the Philip community have experienced steady growth, but the community retains its "small town feel". Residents and visitors enjoy amenities such as a nine-hole golf course, movie theatre, fitness center, coffee shop, pool, and an excellent K-12 school system in a brand-new building.

In 1970, Philip Nursing Home opened to serve our elderly neighbors, with 30 beds. In 2017 the State of South Dakota identified the need for additional nursing home beds in our area, based on the community care needs and the organization's capacity to undertake the project. Once this project is completed, we will have a 42 bed capacity, including 13,5005 square feet of new construction, with a dedicated memory care wing.
