The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as a caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long‑term care. The NA provides resident‑centered nursing care and daily living assistance under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). The role requires delivering age‑appropriate care, maintaining infection prevention and control protocols, and assisting with basic health‑care needs such as bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, vital signs, and psychosocial support.
The NA also aids in transfers, repositioning, walking assistance, range‑of‑motion and passive exercises, food preparation, meal assistance, housekeeping, and participation in wellness and recreational programs.
- High school graduate or GED (preferred but not required).
- Minimum age of 16.
- Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long‑term care preferred.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification by the state board of nursing, or enrollment in a state‑approved training program with certification within four months of hire.
- Completion of annual competency testing and maintaining continuing education credits (minimum 12 hours per year).
- State‑specific certifications such as Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry, if applicable.
- Valid driver’s license and meeting Sanford Category II driving requirements, if the role includes transportation duties.
- Medical qualification to perform essential driving functions as per Sanford Driving Policy.
