Advanced Veterinary Surgery Center Floater (ANML HEALTH TCHN 2 VMTH)

Apply to join the Advanced Veterinary Surgery Center (AVSC) at UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine as a floater technician. In this role you will provide technical support to the AVSC Surgical service, floating between the AVSC and the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) based on service needs.

• OR circulation and operating room set‑up and breakdown.
• Patient preparation and aseptic technique for various surgical procedures.
• Providing post‑surgical recovery and patient treatments.
• Diagnostic sample collection, IV catheter placement, blood draws, bandaging, positioning, and radiograph acquisition.
• Patient transport between AVSC and VMTH.
• Collaboration with surgical teams to support service objectives.

• Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP) or ability to obtain within three months of hire.
• Valid California driver’s license.
• No specific education required.
• Experience with aseptic technique and OR circulation.
• Experience performing physical examinations and handling multiple species.
• Experience calculating and administering medications via IV, SC, IM, or PO.
• Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Proficiency in blood and urine sample collection and IV catheter maintenance.

• Recognition of normal and abnormal vital signs and appropriate responses.
• Setup and troubleshooting of specialized surgical equipment (cautery, fluoroscopy, laparoscopy).
• Understanding of surgical asepsis and its impact on contamination.
• Ability to prioritize workload independently.

The Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) supports 24‑hour clinical services, educates veterinary students, and provides community veterinary care.

• Vacation – 3 weeks per year
