Our client is a family-owned and operated construction company based in Hayti, South Dakota, with more than 40 years of experience in the construction industry. They have built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality craftsmanship and reliable service across a wide range of construction projects. The company provides turnkey construction solutions, handling projects from the ground up. Their capabilities include dirt work, concrete, pre-engineered metal buildings (PEMBs), framing, and additional construction services, allowing them to support clients through multiple phases of the building process.

This position analyzes project drawings, specifications, and bid documents to determine quantities, labor requirements, equipment needs, and material costs. The estimator will collaborate closely with project managers, field supervisors, and subcontractors to ensure estimates are thorough, competitive, and aligned with the company’s production capabilities.

• Review plans, specifications, and bid documents
• Perform quantity takeoffs for footings and foundations, slabs on grade, structural concrete, sidewalks, curb and gutter, and site flatwork
• Develop labor, equipment, and material cost estimates
• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing
• Prepare bid proposals, scopes, and bid packages
• Participate in bid strategy meetings and pre-bid walkthroughs
• Identify value engineering and cost-saving opportunities
• Track historical cost data to improve estimating accuracy

Experience

• 7–10 years of estimating experience in concrete or commercial construction
• Experience estimating foundations, structural concrete, and flatwork
• Experience working with subcontractors and suppliers

Technical Skills

• Strong blueprint reading and specification interpretation
• Quantity takeoffs and cost estimating
• Experience with estimating software (Plan Swift, Bluebeam, Procore, Sage, or similar)
• Strong Excel skills
• Understanding of concrete production methods and scheduling
