Position Overview

Waking Nights Support Worker at Children’s Residential Home.

Responsibilities
  • Provide emotional reassurance and calm presence throughout the night.
  • Monitor wellbeing and respond to distress, incidents or needs.
  • Complete thorough and accurate documentation, logs, safeguarding reports, handovers.
  • Support bedtime and morning routines, including wake, breakfast, personal care.
  • Conduct regular checks to maintain a safe, secure environment.
  • Maintain a therapeutic and stable atmosphere in line with care plans and behavioral strategies.
  • Remain awake and alert throughout the shift, ensuring full supervision and support.

  • Natural empathy for children.
  • Remain calm and responsive in emotionally charged situations.
  • Reliable, resilient, and understand professional boundaries.
  • Work independently through the night while part of a supportive team.
  • Excellent written communication skills for clear reporting.
  • Flexible and committed to the needs of the home and its residents.
Desirable
  • Experience in a similar role or residential childcare setting.
  • NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards it).
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, trauma‑informed practice, and behavior management techniques.
