Job Description

American Traveler is seeking a skilled RN for a Telemetry Observation Unit night shift position requiring prior travel experience and WV or compact RN licensure.

Responsibilities

• Position is based on an acute care Telemetry Observation Unit with 32 beds

• Adult and geriatric patient population primarily with respiratory and medical conditions, including trach care (not vented)

• Nurse to patient ratio is 1:6

• Uses Epic for charting and documentation

• 12-hour night shifts, scheduled every other weekend with rotational holidays

• Travelers may be required to float to other Med-Surg units or the Emergency Department to care for boarded patients

• Monitor Techs staffed 24/7; charge nurse on unit; possible cross-training for charge nurse responsibilities

• Unit is equipped with CPAP, BiPAP, high-flow oxygen, trach collars, IV pumps, SCDs, pulse oximetry, and specialty beds

• Responsibilities include cardiac monitoring, titration of drips, trach care, and comprehensive nursing care for observation patients

• Block scheduling is allowed when unit needs are met, and requests are considered by management

• Full general and nursing orientation is provided including two 12-hour shifts with a preceptor

• Solid navy scrubs required for RNs; no embroidery or patterns allowed

• Closed toed shoes required; color-specific fleece zip-ups and undershirts allowed per policy

• Must be willing to float to Med-Surg or ED as needed

• Holiday coverage is scheduled in rotation with permanent staff, with consideration to previous year assignments

• No local travelers within a 50-mile radius

• Testing and initial skills checklist requirements must be completed during orientation

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required

• Minimum of 2 years RN experience

• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required

• Prior travel nursing experience required

• Experience with Med-Surg, Telemetry, critical drips, and trach care required

• Ability to titrate cardiac drips such as heparin, Cardizem (up to 15mg/hr), Lasix, dopamine (low dose), and amiodarone

• Experience with peritoneal dialysis preferred

• Comfortable reviewing telemetry strips each shift

• No previous employment at any WVU Medicine location within the past 2 years
