Position SummaryThe APP coordinates and provides clinical care for orthopedic patients, including biological, social, and psychological assessments, directs multidisciplinary care, performs diagnostic/therapeutic procedures, peri‑operative services, and coordinates discharge planning. The APP also contributes to resident and student education.
Minimum Qualifications – Nurse Practitioner- Graduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with a Master’s Degree in Nursing.
- National certification by one of the recognized APRN certification centers.
- Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia.
- CNOR certification.
- BLS certification required; additional Advanced Life Support training at department discretion.
- First Assist privileges require ANOR‑approved RNFA certification.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) at department discretion.
- Bachelor’s Degree as PA or Master’s Degree, with graduate of an ARC‑PA approved training program.
- Certification by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants.
- Licensed or eligibility for licensure by the WV Board of Medicine.
- BLS certification required; additional Advanced Life Support training at department discretion.
- ACLS at department discretion.
- Acute care, surgical or orthopedic experience.
- Master’s level degree as PA preferred.
- Manage comprehensive, individualized care for orthopedic patients in inpatient, peri‑operative, and ambulatory settings.
- Complete daily rounds, consults, and pre‑procedure evaluations.
- Perform integrated assessments and order additional tests per clinical guidelines.
- Communicate diagnostic results and collaborate with clinic/hospital staff.
- Facilitate patient discharge, coordinating services and outpatient follow‑up.
- Develop individualized plans of care, including teaching, peri‑operative planning, and referral.
- Identify complex cases and initiate appropriate interventions.
- Respond to emergency situations with effective care.
- Assist in outcome measure collection and documentation.
- Use teaching and learning theory for education of staff, students, and patients.
- Participate in community programs, literature distribution, and research.
- Lead implementation of changes to improve patient outcomes.
- Ability to lift, move, and carry patients and equipment up to 40+ pounds.
- Work closely with others; irregular or protracted hours.
- Exposure to biohazards, infectious diseases, deceased patients, water, and electrical hazards associated with medical equipment.
- Proficiency with computers.
- Strong communication skills.
