Performs diagnostic CT procedures within the CT Department utilizing specific equipment for that purpose. Rotates through diagnostic radiology as assigned and performs all responsibilities outlined in the Computed Tomography (CT) Tech job description. Involved in the practice of radiation and general safety at all times.
Minimum Qualifications- Graduate of a Medical Imaging Program.
- Radiography certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technologist certification with the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) within 6 months of hire.
- Must possess current or temporary Radiography license as required by state board where services will be provided.
- MD:
Radiographer license through the Maryland Board of Physicians. - OH:
Radiographer license through the Ohio Board of Radiology. - PA:
No state license is required. - WV:
Radiography License, Temporary Radiography License, or Nuclear Medicine and Diagnostic CT License through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board. - Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
- State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable) as required for regulated areas.
- One (1) year of experience as a computed tomography technologist.
- Prepares room, equipment, materials as needed for patient exams, including sterile technique; cleans and disinfects rooms and equipment following each patient exam, using current infection control policies.
- Performs examinations per physician’s orders and explains procedures to patients; documents any variations from protocol due to patient condition or other unknown cause and relays patient history and clinical data to radiologist.
- Observes patient and equipment and reports any unusual occurrences or changes; transports and assists patients as needed.
- Documents status of patient in reference to radiology/CT procedure on patient’s chart.
- Documents variances and repeats and other occurrences to help maintain high‑quality health care and opportunity for quality improvement.
- Maintains stock supplies, performs general office duties, responsible for proper film labeling and following prescribed techniques to assure acceptable quality and consistency.
- Practices safe radiation exposure and protection as well as general safety for patients, visitors, and staff at all times.
- Complies with policy and procedures for the departmental and hospital‑wide programs; participates in the patient safety training and patient protection, including the needs and methods to report medical/healthcare errors and abuse.
- Produces diagnostic quality images utilizing CT equipment and effectively judges CT images for proper technique to best demonstrate anatomy and pathology; performs critical procedures under stress during emergency procedures.
- Performs diagnostic studies using mobile radiographic equipment in emergency or patient rooms as ordered by physician; performs diagnostic studies in surgical suite with C‑Arm and other equipment.
- Provides care specific to the needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
- May perform IV insertion/blood draws.
- Administers IV/Oral/Rectal contrast for CT imaging procedures per radiologist protocol/department manual and ordering physician/care provider order.
- Utilizes PACS to ensure exams are completed and available for the radiologist to read and for the referring physician/care provider review.
- Performs all related duties as assigned by the department manager or other duties assigned by the lead technologist.
- Frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and feeling are necessary body movements utilized in performing duties throughout the work shift.
