Fitness Floor Associate - Part Time
Under supervision of the Fitness Coordinator/Director or Branch Manager and consistent with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the Fitness Floor Associate is responsible for managing the operations and training of members in the fitness center and free weight area.
The associate will assist the Fitness Coordinator with various branch activities such as special events and other activities that occur on various occasions.
Responsibilities- Supervises and guides workout programs of members, demonstrating proper techniques, correcting improper lifting techniques, encouraging members to continue working and advising new techniques to reach training goals. Good health and nutrition practices are encouraged, not the use of dietary supplements or other supplements.
- Provides a safe and clean workout environment, maintaining the fitness area, keeping it clean and free of obstacles such as weights or pads that could be trip hazards in traffic areas. Cleaning duties include vacuuming, dusting, cleaning mirrors, wiping down weight and cardiovascular equipment, and restocking paper products as needed.
- Reports to supervisor any equipment that is not working properly.
- Controls unruly behavior, improper use of equipment, or any other action against YMCA policies.
- Assists members with spotting or lifting weights.
- Greets members as they walk into the fitness area; name recognition is desired.
- Updates workout records and leaves encouraging notes such as “Great Job” or “Keep up the good work”.
- Schedules appointments to develop or update members’ workout programs.
- Introduces new members to others with similar goals and encourages contact.
- Keeps emergency procedures current and follows them as situations warrant.
- Represents the YMCA and maintains its relationship with members and kindred organizations in the community.
- Current CPR and First Aid Certifications.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Working knowledge of anatomy, physiology, fitness guidelines and program development.
- Ability and willingness to approach participants in a non-threatening manner to correct form, offer suggestions, and diffuse potential volatile situations.
- Ability to provide customer service in a polite and informed manner.
- College-level weight training course may be accepted for employment;
Foundations of Strength and Conditioning at the Y (offered by ACE) or equivalent is highly desired. - Ability to reach overhead and bend to floor using proper body mechanics.
- Ability to demonstrate proper form while demonstrating exercises.
- Ability to carry, sit, see, hear, speak, run, crouch, and walk.
- Ability to lift at least a 25 lb. weight plate off the floor with proper body mechanics.
