Overview
For more than 126 years, Epworth Children's Home has grown and adapted to the individual needs of children and families by providing a safe and nurturing environment, evidence-based practices, and programs across the continuum of care and across the state of South Carolina.
Position Summary
The Community-Based Specialist utilizes the Homebuilders Model to provide families with a wide array of services to equip and supply family members with the necessary tools to successfully prevent out of home placement or reunification services. Use the training and supervision guidance to implement an evidence-based model. Teach by direct methods, generally including the following components: presentation of the skill, modeling, role-play, constructive feedback, coaching, praising and encouraging.
Develop an understanding of systems that serve families including the legal, social services, health care, and school systems. Consults and advocates with other service providers when appropriate to help family members meet their goals. Work with children, youth and families as a partner toward successful accomplishment of goals developed by the family to move them toward their version of success.
- Provide family services using the Homebuilders Model to prevent out of home placement and support reunification efforts as appropriate.
- Apply training and supervision guidance to implement an evidence-based model.
- Utilize direct teaching methods including presentation, modeling, role-play, feedback, coaching, and encouragement.
- Develop understanding of systems (legal, social services, health care, school) that serve families.
- Consult and advocate with other service providers to help families meet their goals.
- Collaborate with children, youth, and families as partners toward their defined goals.
- Master 0s degree in social work, psychology, marriage and family therapy, or related human service field.
- Bachelor 0s degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or related human service field with at least 2 years of direct social service experience.
- Has a belief system and engages in faith practices compatible with those of the United Methodist Church.
- Must be able to pass standard background checks, including: drug screen, employment physical, SLED, DSS Central Registry and Sex Offenders Registry.
