Position Overview:

The Facility Maintenance Technician (FMT) performs skilled maintenance and repair work across various building systems and equipment to support the operational functionality, safety, and upkeep of the facility. Responsibilities include routine preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs involving mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and structural systems. This role requires knowledge of multiple trades and the ability to work with minimal supervision or collaboratively as needed.

The position is classified as hourly and reports directly to the Director of Facilities and Equipment Maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Preventive & Corrective Maintenance
  • Perform daily inspections and routine maintenance on mechanical systems, electrical panels, HVAC units, plumbing fixtures, and facility infrastructure.
  • Identify and diagnose equipment malfunctions; make timely repairs using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic instruments.
  • Replace worn or defective parts, lubricate machinery, and check for system leaks or failures.
  • Complete work orders accurately and in a timely manner, ensuring documentation of actions taken.
2. Facility Systems Support
  • Install, maintain, and repair facility systems including lighting, piping, wiring, compressors, and basic structural components.
  • Support minor construction or renovation projects such as assembling fixtures, patching drywall, or installing shelving.
  • Monitor building controls and systems to ensure energy efficiency and proper function.
  • Coordinate with external vendors for complex repairs or service calls requiring specialized certification or tools.
3. Equipment & Tools Operation
  • Operate lifts, hoists, ladders, and basic shop equipment required for maintenance and repair activities.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in proper working order and store them safely.
  • Adhere to lockout/tagout procedures and other safety guidelines during maintenance activities.
4. Safety, Communication & Housekeeping
  • Identify safety hazards or maintenance risks and report them immediately to leadership.
  • Communicate repair timelines, material needs, and equipment conditions with supervisors and other departments.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in all assigned areas.
5. Additional Duties
  • Remain current with training or technical updates relevant to facility systems.
  • Follow all company safety protocols and standard operating procedures.
  • Occasionally manage temporary employees working on a facility project.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    This position does not have direct reports. However, the position may provide task-based oversight to temporary employees or contractors involved in facility-related projects on an as-needed basis.
Requirements

Key Requirements:
  • Experience
    :
    Minimum of 2–3 years of maintenance experience in a facility, warehouse, or industrial environment. Experience in multi-trade repairs including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and general maintenance.
  • Education
    :
    High school diploma or GED required. An associate degree or technical certification in Industrial Maintenance, HVAC, or Electrical Systems is preferred.
  • Skills
    :
    Strong mechanical aptitude with proven troubleshooting abilities. Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical repair manuals. Proficient in the use of hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment commonly used in mechanical inspection and repair tasks. Basic computer skills required for entering maintenance logs, completing inspection reports, and using work order or ERP systems for task management.
