Location: Columbia

Full‑time position with LHI Security Services. AM/PM shift (6:00 am‑6:00 pm or 6:00 pm‑6:00 am, TBD by need). Sign‑On Bonus: $2,500.

Job Summary

The Security Officer responds to and resolves calls for service, monitors patients as necessary and patrols the District to ensure the safety and security of patients, visitors and staff.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • No minimum years of experience required.
  • No substitutable education or experience required.
  • Must possess a South Carolina Law Enforcement Division Security Officer License or achieve it within the first month of employment; maintain annually including defensive tactics (intermediate weapons), Criminal Justice Information Systems Security and Awareness, Restraint Application, Crisis Intervention, and all required training through Lexington Medical Center.
  • Must attain International Association of Healthcare Safety and Security Basic Certification within the first 12 months of employment.
  • Must attain certification in CPR within the first 3 months of employment.
  • Must maintain a valid South Carolina driver’s license, acceptable motor‑vehicle record and background screening per Vehicle Safety policy (subject to annual review).
  • Must successfully complete initial and annual Department Physical Fitness Test.
  • Must have experience with Windows OS (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Must be able to read and write English fluently and follow written and oral directions.
Essential Functions
  • Patrol all areas within the District on a regular and non‑scheduled basis.
  • Respond to calls for service.
  • Observe, instruct, correct, investigate and report persons or incidents involving suspected break‑ins, tampering, vandalism, theft, property damage, safety hazards, smoke, or fire obstructions and conditions or violations contrary to the best interest of the District.
  • Respond to requests for assistance that include serious offenses such as armed individuals or crimes involving weapons.
  • Conduct interviews and investigations of complaints or persons accused or suspected of illegal activities.
  • Prepare written reports of investigations based on actions.
  • Prepare for and give legal testimony in court.
  • Operate vehicle and equipment safely and responsibly.
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation standards within the District.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Participate in continuous training to enhance law‑enforcement skills including apprehension and arrest techniques, defensive tactics and other general skills.
  • Check packages and identification; detain and question unauthorized persons with improper identification or those in restricted or inactive locations.
  • Release remains of deceased patients from the morgue to the proper funeral home(s), ensuring proper identification.
  • Check parking areas for violations and issue parking citations.
  • Lock/unlock certain entrances, offices and areas.
  • Act as a liaison between Public Safety and different District departments under a Hospital Watch Program.
  • Ensure timely resolution to requests.
  • Perform any other request assigned by management.
  • Perform all other duties assigned.
