Job Responsibilities
- Reports directly to the Warden at the institution.
- Responsible for patrolling institutional grounds and monitoring activities to ensure the safety and security of staff.
- Develops and implement crime prevention strategies to maintain a peaceful institutional environment.
- Establish and maintain a positive relationship with executive staff.
- Respond to calls for service and take incident reports.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to staff and assist in conflict resolutions.
- Provide resources to staff for such topics as drug abuse prevention, personal safety, inmate-employee relations, and career development.
- Collaborate with institutional administrators to address and prevent staff behavioral issues.
- Ensure the safety of staff on Institutional premises.
- Respond to and manage crisis situations and emergencies.
- Collaborate with training division, human resources or any other internal or external entity to ensure employees are receiving special or additional training to assist professional growth.
Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.
Minimum And Additional Requirements- A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
- A high school diploma and three (3) years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work to include one (1) year of supervisory experience.
- A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for supervisory experience year for year (associate and above = 1 year).
- Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
