Lieutenant Lieber Correctional Institution, Ridgeville; DORCHESTER Level 3

Responsibilities

• Under general supervision, plan, coordinate and direct the actions of the security staff and oversee security, custody and control of inmates in a medium/maximum security facility.
• Assume primary responsibility for security of all buildings and public property.
• Make routine checks of the unit(s) to ensure subordinate staff are performing their duties properly and safely, and that cleanliness and OSHA standards are maintained.
• Assist with all inmate counts for accuracy.
• Investigate complaints and violations; arbitrate disputes among inmate population and correctional staff.

Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

• A high school diploma and three (3) years experience in correctional, security, military, or police work to include one (1) year of supervisory experience.
• A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for supervisory experience year for year (associate and above = 1 year).
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
• A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
