This role is part of Hotel Equities, a multi‑award‑winning hotel development and hospitality management company, and will serve the Sheraton Columbia Downtown in South Carolina.

Base pay range

$17.00/hr - $18.00/hr

Job Purpose

Prepare food items in accordance with production requirements and quality standards while maintaining a safe, sanitary work environment. Warm, knowledgeable service and helpful guidance reassure guests they’ve made the right choice to stay with us.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare all food items according to standard recipes and as specified on guest check and following company and brand standards, to ensure consistency of product and achieve high guest satisfaction.
  • Prepare daily requisitions for supplies and food items for production.
  • Visually inspect, select, and use only food items of the highest standard in the preparation of all menu items.
  • Check and control the proper storage of product and monitor portion control to maintain product quality.
  • Keep refrigeration, equipment, storage, and working areas clean and compliant with health department regulations.
  • Demonstrate good working knowledge of accepted sanitation standards.
  • Operate kitchen equipment (stoves, ovens, broilers, slicers, steamers, etc.) safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain knowledge of food and beverage preparation and service procedures.
  • Promptly report all maintenance issues.
  • Properly receive and store food and other deliveries.
  • Consult daily with upper kitchen management and other departments related to Food & Beverage.
  • Participate in and recommend improvements for ongoing hotel programs.
  • Participate in physical inventories.
  • Provide guest relations support, remaining readily available and approachable.
  • Treat guest concerns proactively, following the property’s second‑effort and recovery plan.
  • Extend professionalism and courtesy to guests at all times.
  • Adhere to all applicable Company Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Be an enthusiastic, helpful, and positive team member.

Safety & Security Skills
  • Properly handle and account for keys.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • High School diploma or secondary qualification (or equivalent).
  • Experience with Marriott, Hilton, IHG, Wyndham, or Hyatt processes and standards.
Required Competencies
  • Speak, read, write, and understand the primary workplace language(s).
  • Read and write to facilitate communication.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computational ability.
  • Read recipes and follow instructions.
  • Perform culinary techniques (cutting, cooking principles, plate presentation, safety, and sanitation practices).
  • Create buffet displays up to 5–6 feet high and maintain/build/dismantle them.
  • Work in extreme temperatures (freezers –10 °F, kitchens +110 °F) for up to an hour or more.
  • Stand, walk, and exert a well‑paced mobility for up to 4 hours.
  • Lift and carry items up to 50 lb. from shelves to kitchen areas; operate kitchen machinery (slickers, choppers, grinders, mixers, etc.).
  • Create, build, and dismantle displays up to 8‑feet high, including ice carvings.
  • Work under ambient noise that may require shouting to be heard.
  • Extend full physical capacity (bend, stoop, squat, lift) for regular duties, including lifting 30 lb trays and pushing/pulling carts up to 250 lb.
  • Maintain manual dexterity for operating equipment and office tools.
  • Obtain and/or maintain required licenses, certificates, or permits.
