Work Schedule: Standard working schedule: 8:30am – 5:00pm. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the department.

The Department of Drug Discovery and Biomedical Sciences (DDBS) at the College of Pharmacy, University of South Carolina (USC), is seeking to hire a Research Technician to conduct research in Dr. Jun Zhu’s laboratory on ongoing NIH-funded projects to study the underlying mechanisms of HIV-1 infection associated neurocognitive disorders.

The Research Technician is expected to perform research under the supervision of the Principal Investigator. Duties involve conducting cell culture and pharmacological assays to characterize the in vitro pharmacological profile of human vesicular monoamine transporter (VMAT2) and its mutants, and to test the compounds to identify optimized probe molecules using cell-based expressing human VMAT
2. The Technician is also expected to assist with other ongoing experiments and maintain instruments, ensure lab safety, and assist with lab cleaning and organizing.

• Conduct cell culture and pharmacological assays related to VMAT2 and its mutants.
• Characterize in vitro pharmacological profiles and test compounds to identify optimized probe molecules.
• Assist with other ongoing experiments and maintain laboratory instruments.
• Maintain lab safety and assist with lab organization and cleaning as needed.

Bachelor’s degree in biomedical science or related field. Prior experience working in a research laboratory is preferred.
