Position Description

The Department of Mathematics at the University of South Carolina invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher to work on an NIH
-funded project focused on the multiscale modeling of Stimuli-Responsive Wormlike Micelles for targeted drug delivery. This project aims to develop a first-of-its-kind multiscale simulation platform to predict the behavior of these smart nanocarriers under varying pH and flow conditions. The work bridges theory, computation, and experimental validation to design next-generation therapeutic systems. The position is ideal for a candidate passionate about closing the loop between computational simulations and wet-lab experiments.

Education and Experience

Requires a Doctoral (Ph.D.) degree in area of research specialty.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in Applied Mathematics, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or other related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in hands-on rheometry and strong skills in modeling and computational simulation.
  • Proficiency in scientific programming languages, particularly Matlab and/or Python.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Knowledge of research. Strong data analysis, statistical modeling, and visualization skills. Knowledge of experimental rheometry and computational modeling and simulation.

Job Duties
  • Design and conduct rheological experiments to characterize micellar response to pH and shear; generate validation datasets. (Essential Function Yes, % of Time 35)
  • Develop and refine stochastic and macroscopic constitutive models using experimental data; ensure multiscale accuracy. (Essential Function Yes, % of Time 30)
  • Prepare peer-reviewed manuscripts, NIH reports, and conference presentations. (Essential Function Yes, % of Time 25)
