This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health,
C. M. Tucker, Roddey Pavilion, 2200 Harden Street, Columbia, SC 29203.
As the Assistant Director of Nursing, under supervision of the Director of Nursing (DON), you will plan, organize, and direct nursing activities for CM. Tucker-Roddey skilled nursing care facility. You will also assist DON and nurse leaders with daily operations of nursing and resident care.
Responsibilities for the Nurse Manager, Institutional/ Assistant Director of Nursing:- Make daily rounds to observe and evaluate resident care, ensuring regulatory compliance and standards with the Clinical Nurse Leaders/Charge Nurse. Review reportable and unusual occurrences daily for regulatory compliance. Take appropriate action to correct any deficiencies and confers with DON. Participate in on-call and on-floor coverage as needed.
- Assist nursing supervisors, clinical nurse leaders and director in planning work operations on a short/long term basis, setting priorities based on goals. Participate in interviewing and hiring staffing, assigning and reassigning work in all work units. Coordinate with PI Dept and Resource Nurse to ensure regulatory and facility education needs.
- Assist nursing supervisors and director in making changes to accommodate new and fluctuating goals, programs and needs of the residents. Review all staffing patterns, assigning and reassigning available staff to ensure resident needs are met.
- Participate in counseling/disciplinary actions regarding staff. Evaluate, supervise, and guide nurse managers/charge nurse in counseling/disciplinary actions of unit staff.
- Participate with considerable influence in establishing and evaluating nursing goals and standards. In the absence of the director, conduct staff meetings and represents the DON.
- Observe work operations and review written reports and charts to evaluate nursing services; change needed as a result of this review are coordinated with the DON. Participate in the budget process for the facility.
- Participate in committees as instructed. Adhere to policy and procedure, directives, and laws governing SCOMH, CMT and nursing practice.
- Function as CM Tucker project coordinator (Super User) for My Unity (Long-Term Care electronic health record).
- Coordinate with staffing coordinator on scheduling and time and attendance accountability.
- A bachelor's degree and two (2) years' experience as a registered nurse, one (1) year of which must be nursing management experience; or an associate's degree in nursing and three (3) years' experience as a registered nurse, one (1) year of which must be nursing management experience.
- Licensed as a registered nurse by the State of South Carolina Board of Nursing.
- Ability to assume 24-hour responsibility of assigned area.
- Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
- Be able to plan and direct the work of the nursing personnel.
- Have considerable knowledge of nursing policies and procedures and standard of care.
