Overview
MUSC Community Physicians (MCP) is an entity within the Medical University of South Carolina that provides healthcare to patients within the rural health network throughout the state of South Carolina.
Under the direction of a registered nurse, the LPN is responsible for all identified nursing care behaviors within their span of control during their tour of duty and is accountable to the Charge Nurse and/or designated individual. The LPN participates in the care of a defined patient population, assists with data collection, formulation of plans for patient care, and participates with evaluation of outcomes of nursing actions.
ResponsibilitiesProvides patient/family centered care, acting as partner and adviser, and supports patients and families to optimally manage their health care, respecting their culture, values, individual needs, health goals, and treatment preferences. Applies critical reasoning and clinical judgment to expedite appropriate care and treatment, especially with complex or potentially life‑threatening conditions. Uses critical thinking in clinical problem‑solving relative to scope of practice, knowledge, competency, and experience.
Assists medical staff with preparation, examination, and procedures, including interviewing/screening patients to obtain personal data and chief complaint, documenting for records, and recording vital signs. Performs telephone and in‑person screenings. Participates in recording and reporting responsibilities; documents findings relevant to the patient’s health care status or plan of care in accordance with approved policies and procedures. Prioritizes and documents patient incoming phone calls regarding medications and medical conditions, and reviews with the provider as needed for orders or changes.
Cleans and stocks examination rooms and related supply areas. Documents all patient care delivered in the medical record according to medical center policy.
Graduation from a recognized Licensed Practical Nursing program and licensure as an LPN within the state of South Carolina or a compact state.
One year of LPN experience preferred. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either through an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers or an AHA recognized equivalent, or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
