External Communications Manager

Responsibilities

• Experience in media relations, including working with media outlets.
• Ability to manage sensitive, high‑stakes situations with discretion, sound judgment, and professionalism.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft clear and concise messages for diverse audiences and channels.
• Ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
• Strong organizational skills, prioritizing tasks and managing multiple projects simultaneously.

• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Minimum of five years of related experience.
• Previous communications experience preferred.
• Exemplary writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
• Strong knowledge of external communications theory and best practices.
• Superior media relations and relationship building skills.
• Ability to analyze complex financial and technical issues and communicate them in a compelling and easily absorbed manner to the general public.
• Experience with print and digital media.
• May require occasional in‑state travel and very limited overnight travel.
• Must be able to safely lift and carry files, supplies, boxes, etc., weighing up to 20 lb.; able to sit, stand, walk for intermittent periods; able to reach, bend, and twist at the waist for filing, desk work, and general office equipment operation.
